Please make sure you understand what are the main directories used by sqlbrowser first by looking at SQLBrowser Directories.

  • After an upgrade, it may happen that some persisted classes are no longer compatible with the new version. In such case please do the following (Under Windows):
    • Shutdown SQLBrowser
    • Make sure that the Windows Explorer flag which allows to see Hidden files is turned on (File or Folder Options Menu)
    • Locate the "user directory" by looking it up as described in SQLBrowser Persistent Configuration
    • Copy this directory to a safe place or rename it to .sqlbrowserOLD
    • Delete this directory if you copied it to a safe place
    • Launch SQLBrowser (SQLBrowser should start clean)
    • Shutdown SQLBrowser
    • Check that SQLBrowser has recreated the "user directory" content with default values
    • Restore the interesting preferences directory from the saved directory: copy the entire sub directory: "config\Preferences\com\sqlbrowser" (see image below) into the new "user directory"
    • Launch SQLBrowser (SQLBrowser should now restore your options)

  • If windows don't show up properly, it may be due to the persistence mechanism trying to restore incompatible versions of the stored windows configuration. Please lookup the Windows troubleshooting section for more information

  • Obsoleted Methods
    • If you are still having problems, quit SQLBrowser, go in the <installdir>\bin\ and launch sqlbrowserClearPersistence.cmd NB: This will delete some preferences and your windows locations
    • If you are still having problems, quit SQLBrowser, go in the <installdir>\bin\ and launch sqlbrowserClearRegistry.cmd NB: This will delete most preferences and you will have to re-enter them, e.g. the registration key
    • There may be rare cases when SQLBrowser seem to refuse to start. This may be due to a current running instance not properly killed. Go in the Windows Task, locate the java program corresponding to SQLBrowser and terminate this process
